I think that if you have overrun an enemy army and destroyed them, it should give you the option to take some prisoners and ransom them back to your enemy for gold, or resourses, or diamonds or even his POW's of yours. We could also add a % of capturing stat to troops to show how likely they are to kill the enemy or take them hostage! For example Barbarians can have a very low % Of Capture and Knights or pikeman can have a high one. Heros can have a new stat for this too to make your army better at taking prisoners. Although if your enemy doesn't want to pay you can kill them or use them later to barter with and free your POW's

This would be a nice addition. I would like to add one part - the soldiers that you capture could join your own army if you pay, say, 30% of the normal price. You would need free population too, but the cost reduction in itself would be a nice incentive.
I especially like your idea about a new hero skill, and the different capture rates for each soldier. I would have to say that the swordsmen capture rate should be low, since nearly every army has a large number of them. Perhaps knights, swordbretheren, and royal guard could have the highest rates because they are more "royal" units and would be more likely to capture rather than kill in real life.
This would be a great idea - it could even spawn a new building, the "Stockades", the higher level that you have of, the more prisoners you could hold. In fact, if the player captured at least 50 of some soldiers, they could sell them on auction in the "Stockades" as well, albeit at a lower price, say 5 gold for infantry. Throught the game, unless you pay to make them your "own" troops, they could keep the name of their original owner. This way, you could buy back your own troops on auction from people who may not have even captured them.
This may be too much, but what about capturing heroes? Just something to think about....
Overall, this is an amazing idea, and I hope my additions would improve it. I hope that moderators and developers see this and possibly implement it in the future.

This has been suggested a long time ago. I was not a friend of it back then and I do not like it today either. (:s15:)

It demoralises smaller and new players, it limits tactical comabt (-> when is a battle lost and when will prisoners be taken?) and it is an idea that has a lot of potential to encourage bullying which I do not like at all, even in a war game.

This idea is a different story, in my opinion. I think this would fit well into gameplay, especially for mercenaries! It's easy to convince them to change sides. (:s17:)

This is all my opinion as a player, I don't know what the game developers think about this idea. And only they can implement changes. (:s1:)

I put in the part about exchanges POW's because in Medevel times when prisoners were taken they were often ransomed for other prisoners. The battle could be lost and prisoners could be taken based on the moral of the losing army, say if you are out numbered 10 to one and the moral of your remaining army is quite low then they would surrender, but if it was high they would fight to the death. But i see what you mean about bullying when the ransom is gold or something of material value in the game (other than your own troops) and i really like cooperzebulons ideas about it. But i do think saving enemy soldiers for future ransom of your own can add a whole new aspect to war in 1100 ad.

Yes, making it only mercenaries would first of all protect very new players, who do not even have an Obelisk yet, and you are right that mercenaries would be more likely to change sides in a real battle.
Any developers seen this yet? (:s1:)

Hi
i have a similar to what you said :
how about building traps in your city to capture enemy troops ,if they were merces they might change sides or if they were some thing else you can just kill them or free them .
