While in the final stages of a Level 1 city I've upgraded a watchtower to Level 3 and as it was between two sections of wall the tower was assimilated into the outer defense perimeter. On the whole I find this result desirable with one reservation - while the walls list their respective 'Hit Points' the watchtower does not. So my concern is that while it looks authentic and secure is it in fact desirable from a defensive stand point. Can the watchtower in fact withstand the same attack as would a respective level of wall or gate.

Very good question.
Actually in wiki there are no bonus for troops in towers and also in gates...

i don' think a watchtower even stops people from moving through that spot

...and thus my dilemma. As previously noted, the watchtower (while still in the grey stone associated w/level 2 walls) is completely integrated into the adjoining sections of wall(though they are level 3). If I don't hear something definitive soon I'll probably upgrade the tower again (it cost gold as well as the rest..)and see if it continues to match the wall. I can always build wall behind to be safe.
I thank you both (Portugal2 and bob64) for your visit.

It acts as a gate to you and allies and people must have war to destroy it. To find the health of it: click on it, put mouse on the green bar that will probably say "100%" then wait a few secs and the health will come up.

Do you know if the Hit Points, match that of adjoining walls. Is there somewhere it displays that info I'm missing?
Bottom line though, you say it's equal to a gate in terms of defense. So appropriate positioning?
Thank you jkljosiah

Max level tower (5) health: 12500
Max level wall (3) health: 10000
So its pretty close.
You can have 2 of them, max level is sight 5, so if you think about it a little while you can place them in spots that let you see the whole city.

And that clears up a misconception; I had envisioned the tower being more of an early detection of invaders (the higher upgrade allowing an earlier warning...) but it's purpose is more internal to monitor movement within the city perimeters... I see, I see, said the blind man...

Excellent. Thank you angenic. I appreciate your obvious experience in this matter. I will count on your endorsement.
