Yesterday devs added special artifacts and special heroes with heaps of artifacts, but they added them for US players only (all expiry times after first bid were in the middle of the night euro-time).
Thats not really fair, is it? I wanted a new teutonic shield...

It's difficult to be fair to players all over the world when doing a special thing at one point of time. Think of the time for the citadel capture.
I agree that a scaled auction would have been the better solution here, but whenever there are so many different interests to consider, 100% fairness is just impossible.

FYI Sopoke
The server crashed just 3 minutes before the special hero auctions on Crusade server timed out. We only know of 3 of those heroes and they were won by Eastern European players. 7 others reappeared on the auctions stripped of their artifacts... and those never appeared in the statistics of players with highest level heroes.
If you have any theories on that, I'd love to hear them.

I disagree with you here schnitzer. It is not impossible to achieve fairness. It is really not that difficult to choose a time where both europe and the US are awake. for ex. 5 pm server time on a saturday. At that time its 6 pm in Denmark, 9pm in Moscow, 12 pm in New York, 10 am in Los Angeles 12 am in Jakarta. Easy peasy.
Like you said, you could also do it scaled, like having them expire every 3 hours or so. Again, easy peasy.
Regarding Nusanalq's post, I also find it very odd, that the server crashed just when people were about to make their final bids, and 1 guy gets at least 7 of the heros.

And in the middle of the night in Sydney.
In this case, that would have been the best solution in my opinion! I just don't have any idea if that would have been realizable.
I can't comment on that, I didn't follow it, so I will keep quiet about it.

Ok, I will give you that, cant be 100%, but can sure be A LOT more fair than it was.

Do we know who got the heroes?
Well, any half-decent hacker can make a server crash when he wants, so hmmm, the guy who got the heroes, if we can find out who, then maybe we can find who crashed the server???

do we know? of course not
do we have theories? you bet your we do
has nothing to do with the end timing of the auction...it has everything to do with when the items/heroes are posted on auction
so my recommendation to the developers for future special auction sales
arrange it so a percentage of the artifacts/heroes are placed on auction at specific intervals...like every 6 hours for example
that should give every player around the world enough time to decide if they want to bid on an item or hero

FYI...I know for a fact that the server crashed 3 minutes before the auctions expired on the heroes and then came back up right when the last auction hero timer expired. Because I was ready to bid on one of them last minute. I made a comment on the forum about this and I also submitted a support ticket because I am extremely angry about this.

Every 6 hours sounds about right to let every time zone around the world have a chance.
Shouldnt be that hard to code either to happen automatically.
