I don't think the developers want to go in the fantasy direction with their game.
As for me, I like that the units and the setting are realistic - as far as possible and as long as it doesn't interfere with the gameplay.
There are already units in the game that meet these conditions.
This has been suggested before, I'm not sure if something similar was implemented on the new servers. I don't play on them.
If this unit can be balanced with the existing ones and when it comes to cost vs. damage output, it could be a nice addition.
Although they are not called spells, there are certain events that can cause an effect that puts your city in bad or good conditions (-> revolts, taxes, improvements to trading, army training, ressource gathering or building time). Again, I don't think Ambergames wants 1100ad to include any magic or fantasy stuff permanently.
There's already a hero skill that can "bring back" some troops after a battle. Look for the healing skill on your hero.
